I bought these puzzles for my 3-year-old grandson for Christmas. The pictures were colorful, and of course, boys love vehicles. He had no difficulty handling the pieces, or putting them together without assistance. This toy is cleverly designed and extremely durable, unlike cardboard puzzles which fall apart easily. Pieces are much less likely to get lost due to the storage compartment. The top is a great platform for putting the puzzles together. Inside, all four puzzles are neatly stored in sections. The pieces are easily sorted back into sections by matching according to the shape on the back of each piece. (It took me awhile before I figured this out!) The entire box is small enough to be quite portable.
Overall, this is a good inside toy for a preschooler.

My grandson so loves/enjoys these puzzles! i really like the fact that you can store them in a wooden box and that the lid of the box helps keep the puzzle pieces within an area that the children can complete the puzzle! i like melissa and doug products, they are well made and self contained! on a scale of 1-10, 10 meaning great, this rates 10+. My 3-year-old son loves loves LOVES these puzzles - we have this set, the dinosaurs, and the pets, and I just ordered three more sets. He will work on them for the longest time - longer than he'll be still for just about anything else, including sleep!
I love that the puzzles are sturdy, nicely made, easily sorted, and come in wooden boxes that will close and *stay closed*. Anyone who lives with small kids knows what I'm talking about.
I highly recommend these Melissa & Doug puzzles-in-a-box!

We got this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas 2009. I figured it was best for the money because you have 4 puzzles for the price of one. At first the puzzle pieces stuck together but after some use they now are easy to take apart and put together. She loves it and plays with it over and over, but at first she just needed to be shown how to do it (as with any toy I guess). I also like that it has 4 compartments to store each puzzle inside the box and they have shapes on the back side so you know which piece belongs to each puzzle theme. I would definitely by this as a gift for child's 3rd birthday.
