Learning Curve Dinosaur Train - Motorized Adventure Track Set
My son loves this toy despite its flawsAugust 23, 2010 Naomi(NYC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My son loves this toy. The characters are cute - we bought him the whole set. They look just like they are supposed to. They are made of a sold plastic. I cannot imagine them breaking. Like the other reviewers, the hole on the bottom of the feet of the dinosaurs is hard to use. I assume as they use the toy the holes will get bigger and easier to use, but eventually will get to big to work. The largest flaw is that the motor on the train is not strong enough to pull the additional trains, and the train often derails when going around the track. I am sure this will be improved in time. The set is cute. If your child is willing to look past the motor, and push the train around, then I would recommend buying it. My son loves dinosaur train, and is loving having the characters at home with him.
A fun toyAugust 22, 2010 Dino boy Mama Both my 4 yr old and 20 month old love this toy. The tracks are easy enough that they can both put them together. The train can be pushed around the track as well as going around under it's own power. When it's going around by itself it's at a slow enough speed that it's easy for the little ones to catch. It does have it's flaws (the dinos are tricky to put on their pegs and it doesn't have enough power to pull extra coaches) The dinos will stand up/fit in the coaches without matching the little pegs and wholes on their feet. I would suggest buying hte extra figurin packs but not extra coaches. I like that the coaches are open and could potentially fit other small toys that the boys might like to give a train ride to. Summary: it has a couple of flaws but my boys enjoy it anyway!
Good startAugust 22, 2010 Jerry and Amanda(Michigan, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I would like everyone to consider this is a first generation of this toy. If it is around as long as the Thomas and friends motorized sets I am sure it could get better. The main design flaws are the foot pegs to hold the dinosaurs and the train itself. In regards to the pegs, they are hard to use. Each Dino needed a hole on each foot also the pegs needed to be a little farther away from the train car sides. It is hard to get certain characters on to the foot pegs which makes the car fairly unusable.
As for the train itself, it does not negotiate the track well. As another reviewer said the train has a tendency to derail on curves. If the drive wheels had been more the rear of the engine car that most likely would have solved the issue. There is a reason why on real trains the main drive wheels are the back wheels. My son does enjoy this toy despite its flaws.
CuteAugust 20, 2010 A. Hawkins(Nashville TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The train is exactly described, but it will not pull extra cars and barely pulls the ones that come in the package around curves. Plus you are not getting a great deal on a great product; you are getting a cheap product for a cheap price. It is cute and the characters look like themselves, but I just would have bought the extra cars and figures and not wasted money on the train.
I'm very disappointed in the quality of this toyAugust 30, 2010 happy mommy(Chicago, IL) My 3.5 year old son loves the Dinosaur Train show, and trains in general. He squealed when he opened this box but this toy is going to be returned (not purchased at Amazon, but I do alot of shopping here so thought I would warn other shoppers)
Here are its' flaws:
The track has almost all curved pieces, and even when assembled according to the layout in the directions, it doesn't fit together quite right and the track pops apart constantly because the plastic is too soft.
The dinosaurs have a hole in the bottom of one of their feet, and this is supposed to go over a peg in the bottom of the trains to hold them up. Good luck fitting that huge peg in that tiny hole on the bottom of their foot! If you don't put the foot in the peg, the dinosaurs fall over as the train moves around.
My son is still thrilled with the idea of it, but between the track popping apart and the dinosaurs falling over, it is quickly losing its magic.
